Over the past two and a half years that I’ve been here at DiscoverSTEM, I’ve seen a big change in myself. I’ve learned so much about the process behind all of this and have gained a growing passion for inventing.
The team that I’ve been working with this year has been so amazing. Everyone here always has the most incredible ideas and most creative, out of the box insights. DiscoverSTEM is a place that engages my mind to think in different ways. When I see a problem, I start thinking of ways I can fix it. I always enjoy working together in teams where we solve current real world problems. One of my favorite parts about DiscoverSTEM are our research labs where we can do hands-on activities. Every visit at DiscoverSTEM teaches something new.

“Learning about Neurotechnology with the BCI helmet has taught me a lot of things I didn’t know about the brain before. I didn’t know we were able to control and move things with our brains, so experimenting with the BCI helmet in labs was cool because we got to move things with our brains. I really enjoy the labs we do because I get to learn more about the brain and do cool stuff with it.”

I think Discover STEM has been really useful overall. I like how we have to think outside the box together, so that the team can really challenge themselves. This enables us to have fun and improve our deep thinking in order to accomplish our goals. Most importantly, it teaches to solve problems in a creative way which develops the mindset of an innovator.

I like the way the mentors at DiscoverSTEM are always ready to support and help me with any questions or problems I may have. Before DiscoverSTEM I would look at a problem and not really care about it, but now I always think about how the problem happens and how I can fix it. I like the group aspect of it, because we can all add more ideas to fix our problems.

It helps children observe the surroundings with certain analytical reasoning and evaluate it from their perspective to measure - ‘Is this the right way to do or is there any other simple way or mechanism that can be proposed or invented?’.
This approach surfaces the curiosity of the young mind and also drives them to propose a solution. Since children are still not exposed to high-end Physics or mathematics, solutions proposed by them are very simple and user-friendly, which is the ultimate objective of any innovation. “I appreciated the process of learning innovations targeted for the kids. From seeing the results presented at the prior DiscoverSTEM demonstration, I think this is a very captivating course. I liked the approach to coming up with a patent and understanding why some ideas could not be patentable. For Hiba, this was a great experience to be in a small group and separately come up with something outside of school.”
